Why the name Salsatricity? When we started nearly 10 years ago there was minimal Bachata …and no Kizomba classes or clubs in the UK so originally just taught Salsa but from day1 played Bachata Cha Cha and Merengue too in the club….and always created a dance storm generating a lot of energy…..but we love dance so we have grown from then We were one of the first to provide classes in Bachata and Kizomba and a place to dance….. and want dance to be for all…and tonight we are adding Cali again…xx we believe in dance and the power of dance and proving excellent lessons in a number of levels and genre and a place to dance where you can come to dance..what ever your level…what ever your background in dance…we are not a bar or restaurant/cafe with a dance school attached we are the dance school and party night with a bar attached…so we are doing it for dance…for dance sake… xxxx and now managed to secure 2 halls for every Saturday

Salsa is a dance to music. Salsa music was created in the Caribbean and adapted first in America and now world wide!! Salsa dancing mixes African and European dance influences. The roots of Salsa: Son, Guaguancó, Rumba, Boogaloo, Pachanga, Guaracha, Plena, Bomba. Salsa is normally a partner dance, and Rueda de Casino is where groups of couples exchange partners in a circle. We teach the footwork so you can understand the ergonomics of the dance….the basic steps, timing and interpretation of music, partner dancing with leading/following freestyle and the footwork moves of Salsa.
SALSA music has 8 beats …but you only step on 6 of them……you pause on the other 2….the secret of salsa dancing is the timing, pausing when your partner pauses so you do not tread on their toes!!……leading your partner….or being lead!!….transferring your weight and of course feeling the music so you are dancing to it rather than trying to remember the routine you did last week…which is where we come in…
We teach you the understanding of the dance….so you can go away and make your own routines……and of course you can dance SALSA to so many different types of music…Frank Sinatra… RnB…reggae….Red Hot Chile Peppers….anything with the 8 beats….as long as you put the pauses in!!
SALSA is a style of music…
…which has its origins in Cuba where an exotic blend of religious drum beats carried over by the slave trade from the African West Coast, and the Spanish troubadour introducing the flamenco guitar creating the Cuban Son….add to this the English/French country dance theme brought in by the French fleeing from Haiti…and you have Latin style of music ‘salsa’.
During the 1898 War US soldiers visiting the island got a taste for the music and as early as 1909 radio recording were coming out of Cuba. During prohibition Americans traveled the 90 miles from Florida to Cuba where alcohol was legal and by the early 20th century many Americans were incorporating the latin rhythms into their own music…W C Hardy was the first but Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Stan Getz…are but a few to be inspired by this infectious rhythm.
The dance was a natural progression.
It is danced on music with a recurring 8 beat-pattern, using 3 steps every 4 with one beat skipped or paused. Often this is marked out by a tap, kick or flick
The name ‘Salsa’ was created in The US and given to the cocktail of partner dances that leapt the Caribbean sea with the Americans and Cubans who fled from Cuba following the revolution in 1958…..a communist revolution in this Caribbean island lead to a change in world thinking….and the start of the spread of this beautiful and sensuous dance.
Salsa can also be danced solo, or in a ‘wheel’ called rueda…where dancers have to listen to a call not unlike county or line dancing.
The Cuban dances were well received in the USA but were difficult to pronounce. They appeared hot and spicy so were given the name ‘salsa’ after a sauce with a similar feel. However the numerous Cuban partner dancers, from which salsa originated, were for all ages and danced at family occasions and were not intended to be a hot and steamy nightclub dance. Today in Cuba it is still danced in cafes and bars during the day and evening…
The American added their style to the dance and exported it to Britain around the 1980’s…this created the New York or LA salsa with the more pronounced cross body style.
After the collapse of the Berlin wall and the Soviet Union in the early 1990’s another wave of Cuban emigrated to Europe bringing the dance to our shores straight from Cuba. Cuban salsa tends to flow around the partner, with less shines.
Today we see a mix of Cuban and American influence. We teach the basic steps so you can add your own style…and go to any club and feel comfortable.

ahhh dancing etiquette….some times overlooked in the rush to get those moves sorted….but oh so important too..
*1….you may ask and be asked by anyone…there are few grounds for refusal and usually its nice to seek them out later …..
* 2. dance in the space you have…don’t do the moves you want!!…which is why having a few Cuban ones are so helpful to your arsenal on a busy dance floor…
* 3. dance with the partner you have…eye contact…keeping her {him..we all have a resonsibility} SAFE…is paramount..I still suffer from an injury incurred 4 years ago by a killer stilletto!…..
* 4 personal space…there are ways to dance with some that you would/should never do with others!! And it is ok as a man o woman to keep that space personal if you do not feel comfortable
* 5…not finally but you may be getting bored by now…..personal hygene…as the nights hot up…not only in the summer…it is oh so important!!!……we have gum at the club and extra tops/deoderant/perfume/etc etc etc is a must…please!! xxxx dancing with a sweaty partner is acceptable but there are limits…sorry! xx..
Birthday dance cake and chocolates….let us know if it is yours and we will orgainise it for you
